BioResearch

The BioResearch Core (BRC) facilities include 14,000 square feet of rodent research space with barrier housing in ventilated rack systems, surgery and procedure suites, necropsy and anesthesia rooms, sterilization and washing facility, Hydropac water system, behavioral and circadian research suites, an aquatic research complex and quarantine facilities.  The BioResearch staff supports all rodent BioImaging procedures.

Compliance

The BRC adheres to all guidelines of the NIH (Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and New York State Department of Health. All activities are reviewed and approved by the Rensselaer Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) – and by the attending veterinarian.

Information concerning facility Specific-Pathogen-Free (SPF) profile and quarantine policies is available.  Professional assistance with the preparation of animal research protocols and training in specific procedures are available by appointment.

Rates

Rates are per diem and per cage ($) for all services except Veterinary and Technician time. Per diems cover certain services (see below). Some special services are also offered (for details see below). Cncellation of cages: per diem charges will continue for 5 days following notification of cancellation.

* Veterinary and Technician time rate is per hour. The Emergency call is $80 per day in addition to the hourly rate ($200), including travel time. Regular Vet checks and one vet emergency call per PI per year are included in per diems.

  • Bedding, food & water prep and delivery (autoclaved food, heat-sterilized bedding and filtered Hydropac TM water pouches)
  • Regular veterinary care and consultation plus one vet emergency call per PI per year; transport to quarantine as required
  • Daily (7-day) health checks & animal observation (non-experimental)
  • Cage maintenance (sanitized cages in ventilated rack) as needed
  • Use of procedure, necropsy and circadian rooms
  • Routine sanitation of animal rooms, support and procedure rooms
  • Use of pass-through autoclave
  • Light cycle maintenance
  • Monitoring animal room environmental parameters
