Research in the Thompson Laboratory is focused on neural tissue engineering, specifically glial-mediated neuronal guidance and the design of optimized biomaterials combined with the synergistic presentation of biophysical and chemical cues to direct the functional repair of both large-gap peripheral nerve and spinal cord injuries. We are also interested in neural stem cells as a potential patient-specific cell source for cell-based regenerative medicine efforts by controlling the ex vivo expansion and differentiation. |
