CBIS Graduate Student & Post-doctoral Association

The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies Graduate Student & Post-doctoral Association is open to all Rensselaer graduate students and post-doctoral researchers who perform research that is primarily based in the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS). CBIS Graduate Student & Post-doctoral Association functions to promote and facilitate social interaction among the graduate students and the post-doctoral researchers of CBIS, as well as with the general CBIS community through organizing a number of events throughout the year ranging from summer barbecues to BioArt exhibition openings to movie nights.

To help improve the scientific environment in CBIS, the CBIS Graduate Student & Post-doctoral Association organizes a distinguished scientist seminar series that is open to the public, which invites distinguished scientists to speak and provides graduate students and post-doctoral researchers an opportunity to meet with leaders in the life sciences.  Such speakers have included Andy Fire, Nobel Laureate, and Harold Varmus, Nobel Laureate, former director of the NIH, and president of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Additionally, the CBIS Graduate Student & Post-doctoral Association serves to empower graduate students by providing a voice and forum through which ideas and opinions can be shared and disseminated.
