Aspects that are playing a role in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic
Diagnostics play an important role in the containment of COVID-19, enabling the rapid implementation of control measures that limit the spread through case identification, isolation, and contact tracing. The course will describe current diagnostic tests, what we know about re-purposing drugs for COVID-19, biological properties of SARS-CoV-2, surveillance technology to curb the spread and the genomics behind contact-tracing. The difference between environments with different biosafety levels will be discussed.
Sessions:
- The implications of testing, diagnosis and drug re-purposing
- The power of Genomics for SARS-CoV-2 strain identification- the genetic foundation of “contact-tracing”
- What are Biosafety Levels? Differences between BSL2 and BSL3
