The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute interweaves life sciences, physical sciences, and engineering into the fields of biotechnology and medicine, opening exciting new pathways to innovation and discovery. Twelve student teams from universities across New York state will compete at the fourth annual New York State Pollution Prevention Institute Research and Development Student Competition on April 22 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Zinc deficiency – long associated with numerous diseases, e.g. autism, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and ovarian cancers – can lead to activation of the Hedgehog signaling pathway.
