In recent years, the US (especially rural and underserved communities) experienced inequitable gaps in the consistent availability of some of the most important staples of human life. Issues range from the availability of cost-effective medicine, rapid response to pandemics, energy production under extreme weather, health and food security disparities based on income, the failure of urban drinking water systems, and source water shortages. The Center for Sustainable Biomanufacturing (CSB) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY is comprised of diverse interdisciplinary researchers that contribute to solving some of the planet’s greatest challenges.
