CSB Short-term Goals and Objectives

Establish funding & oversight to coordinate R&D focus to deliver at low cost the most important life-sustaining medicines to all US citizens by 2033

  • Increase funding for research aimed at lowering the cost of downstream processing
  • Fund open innovation to leverage the rapid response of mRNA technology used in COVID (& improve time to discover lead time & cost to produce)

Establish funding & oversight to coordinate R&D focus on the elimination of nutritional deficits in every community in the US by 2030

  • Fund the creation of achievable nutritional goals using Synthetic Biology
  • Accelerate research spending to capitalize on advances in non-pharma-based research in metabolic engineering, protein engineering

Establish funding & oversight to coordinate R&D focus in the reduction of nonrecyclable plastics consumption, micro-plastic contaminated water/food, & by 50% by 2035

  • Create national standards for Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA) to understand and prioritize research acceleration impact potential
  • Launch open-innovation AI/ML dynamic modeling innovation for National LCA Standards

Improve environmental /climate-focused R&D on reducing emissions & carbon footprint of the petrol-chemical industry by 50% WITH the petrol-chemical industry

  • Fund application scale-up & PoC advancements in carbon recapture, enzymatic polymer recycling, bio-polymer discovery & performance standards of petrochemical offsets that account for cost to produce parity.
  • Where parity does not exist between cost of a bio-based solution v incumbent, use National Standard LCA to prioritize and define subsidy levels for chemical companies

Nationally coordinated STEM education expansion & inclusion with a specific & direct focus on enabling the future US workforce to graduate from high school in 2030 and beyond.

  • Create funding programs that incentivize collaboration/sharing & provides monetary compensation for K-12 teachers to participate in creation AND implementation.
