Proteomics

The workshop will cover basics of mass spectrometry, methods of ionization, mass analysis and data interpretation.  Hands-on experience will include setting up and running various types of experiments on three mass spectrometers utilizing MALDI and electrospray ionization techniques.  Several approaches will be utilized for protein characterization.  Molecular weight will be measured and protein amino-acid sequences will be determined by analyzing peptides derived from trypsin digestion.   Principles of the identification of small molecules will be presented and quantitation measurements of caffeine content in regular and decaffeinated coffees will be performed.

Sessions:

  • Basics of mass spectrometry, sample preparation for MALDI-TOF analyses of peptides, intact proteins and protein digests.
  • Analyses of protein digest mixtures using LCMSMS technique utilizing high resolution high mass accuracy mass spectrometry measurements.  The identification of proteins using data base search .
  • Quantitative targeted analyses of small molecules using triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer.
