CBIS Arch Research Training Program

The CBIS Arch Research Training Program is an intensive learning experience that addresses the growing need for skilled researchers. The program teaches undergraduates how to approach a research project and how to skillfully work in a laboratory setting using advanced equipment.

The Arch Research Training Program gives students an opportunity to work in the laboratory and learn state-of-the-art techniques. It also gives them an understanding of the interdisciplinary training that will be needed in the workplace. The goal is to provide our students with the skills and knowledge to gain a competitive advantage as they pursue co-ops, internships, research opportunities, or prepare for graduate school.

How It Works. Through a preparatory set of online learning modules followed by four weeks of "hands-on" learning experiences with core facility directors and fellow students, participants will be trained in diverse areas important to careers in biotechnology and biomedical fields:

2 weeks prior to the beginning of the summer semester, participants will gain access to electronic material to review prior to the start of the summer semester. This overview of key concepts will provide a basis for the “hands-on” sessions. Students will need at least 20 hours to complete the online material.

Students participate in 2 hour sessions 3 times per week, 2 sessions per research area. Small class sizes offer greater accessibility to the instructors. Each session is available on multiple days to provide maximum flexibility.

The CBIS Arch Research Training Program Evening Series is an opportunity to interact directly with people in pharma, to learn how to be part of a biomanufacturing company, how the technologies you will learn are being used in a corporate setting, etc.  There will be 3 events scheduled throughout the summer and attendance is required.

Students will spend a total of 24 hours on the hands-on portion of the program. Optional instructor office hours and special events will be added. Click here for the 2022 schedule.
